Click Images for Links Dear Friends,
Yesterday, the House approved a jobs bill that seeks to reduce unemployment through a series of targeted tax cuts and investments in small businesses. These are good steps to take, but I believe that more needs to be done to spur job creation, especially in areas of the country that have been hit particularly hard by the recession.
While there are areas of the jobs bill that need further improvement, perhaps its strongest merit is that it is one of the few critical pieces of legislation that has been voted on by both the House and Senate recently. Currently, there are 290 bills that have been passed in the House that have yet to be acted on by the Senate, many delayed indefinitely by individual senators through the use of a parliamentary tactic knows as the silent filibuster.
This morning, I sent a letter with several of my colleagues in the House urging Senate leaders to end the use of the silent filibuster and instead require Senators who want to employ this tactic to come to the Senate floor and explain why. You can read more about this letter below, as well about important new credit card regulations that went into effect last week. As always, I hope that you continue to provide me with your thoughts, feedback, and opinions about these or any other subjects.
Sincerely,![]()
